Frequently Asked Questions
How does this speech-to-text tool work?
This tool uses the Web Speech API built into your browser to perform real-time speech recognition. Your audio is processed by your browser's built-in speech engine and is never uploaded to our servers.
Which browsers are supported?
The Web Speech API is best supported in Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers such as Microsoft Edge. Firefox and Safari have limited or no support for speech recognition at this time.
Is my voice data private?
Your voice data is handled by your browser's speech recognition engine. This tool itself does not send, store, or process any of your audio or transcript data on a server. However, some browsers may send audio to their cloud services for processing.
What languages are supported?
This tool supports over a dozen languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, and Arabic. Select your language from the dropdown before recording.
What does "Continuous recognition" mean?
When continuous recognition is enabled, the tool keeps listening even after pauses in your speech. This is useful for longer dictation. When disabled, recognition stops automatically after a brief silence.
Why is the tool not recognizing my speech accurately?
Accuracy depends on your microphone quality, background noise, and speech clarity. Try speaking more slowly and clearly, reduce background noise, and make sure you have selected the correct language.
