Frequently Asked Questions
How is GPA calculated?
GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's credit hours by its grade point value, summing those products, and dividing by the total number of credit hours. Formula: GPA = Sum(credits x grade_value) / Sum(credits).
What is the GPA scale used?
This calculator uses the standard 4.0 scale: A/A+ = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D = 1.0, F = 0.0.
Can I calculate a cumulative GPA across semesters?
Yes. Simply enter all courses from all semesters into the calculator. The weighted formula works the same way regardless of how many courses you include.
What if my school uses a different grading scale?
This calculator uses the most common US grading scale. If your school uses a different scale, the results may not match your official GPA exactly.
