Frequently Asked Questions
What are the three calculation modes?
"X% of Y" finds a percentage of a number (e.g., 25% of 200 = 50). "X is ?% of Y" determines what percentage one number is of another (e.g., 50 is 25% of 200). "% Change" calculates the percentage increase or decrease from one value to another.
Can I enter decimal numbers?
Yes. All input fields accept decimal numbers. For example, you can calculate 12.5% of 99.99 or find the percentage change from 3.14 to 6.28.
How is percentage change calculated?
Percentage change is calculated using the formula: ((New Value - Old Value) / |Old Value|) x 100. A positive result indicates an increase, while a negative result indicates a decrease.
What happens if I divide by zero?
If you enter zero as the total value in "X is ?% of Y" mode or as the starting value in "% Change" mode, the calculator will display an error message since division by zero is undefined.
